Our Environmental Responsibility

At Iconic Timber, we are passionate about the environment and all that it provides for us. In a world where deforestation is a real threat, we realise the importance of environmental responsibility. Below are some of the environmental accreditations our products have achieved, together with some of the initiatives that we have chosen to put in place.

Our
Commitment

The vast majority of our timber flooring and wall covering collection has an engineered type construction. Engineered timber uses approximately one third of the amount of slow-growing hardwood resource compared to solid timber of the same dimensions. By supplying engineered timber products instead of solid timber, we are helping to minimise the amount of slow-growing natural hardwood timber needed to be harvested to make these products each year.

Our Products

FSC Certification – FSC (Forest Stewardship Council®) is an international organisation established to promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world’s forests. An FSC logo on timber or wood products represents that the product comes from environmentally appropriate and socially beneficial forestry.

LEED Certification – LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is one of the most popular green building certification programs used worldwide. It includes a set of rating systems for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of green buildings, homes, and neighbourhoods that aims to help building owners and operators be environmentally responsible and use resources efficiently.

PEFC Certification – The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is an international, non-profit, non-governmental organisation which promotes sustainable forest management through independent third party certification. It is considered the certification system of choice for small forest owners.

Our
Certifications

As a company, we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment not only with our products, but with our processes. Iconic timber use FSC certified and recyclable boxes to send our samples, print our catalogues from FSC certified papers and actively reduce our in-house paper and plastic usage.

Sustainability

The majority of our products use Oak sourced from European and French forests. Although these forests are ethically maintained, it is important for us to give back to the environment - so we have committed ourselves to replant what we use. In 2017, we used approximately 2,000 trees - so in 2018, we planted 2,000 oak trees to offset what we used. Some of the benefits of replanting include: reducing climate change, restoring degraded forests, offsetting carbon emissions, creating fresh air, aiding in the prevention of flora and fauna extinction and creating employment.
